Ron continues with the Purposes of the Grip.
The first was rising with sights aligned. Check out the YouTube video on it.
This time he explores the 2nd purpose – “Return to Sight Alignment”
Key points:
- sight alignment is a function of the grip, as is returning to sight alignment
- sight picture (where the gun is pointing) is a function of _both_ the stance and the grip
- for the return from recoil, alignment is handled by the grip, and return to point of aim is handled by the stance (a future video!)
- build a spring in your grip by
- pulling the gun into the hand with the fingers (front to back)
- stiffening the wrist(s). It’s important to note that this isn’t locking, stiffen – like shaking hands
- cam the wrists to form a straight line “flat spring”
Practicing this:
- Shoot at the pace you can see what’s going on
- monitor the shot and focus on “is it returning to alignment”
- you can use a horizontal target (sharpener), masking tape, duct tape, to help with this.
- do it right first
- then edge up the speed to what you see visually (do you see what you need to see)
Good luck – and remember to hit our Facebook group with questions/discussion!
